As part of the ambitious project of the Greek Epigraphic Society to create catalogues of inscriptions kept in the Museums and archaeological collections and sites of Greece, the catalogue of the inscriptions of the Archaeological Collection of Eresos (Lesvos) has recently been completed.

The work has been encouraged and supported by the Director of the 20th Ephorate of Antiquities Ms Olga Philaniotou who has been corresponding with the Secretary of the Greek Epigraphic Society, Dr. Angelos P. Matthaiou, for setting up the project which is part of the larger project for the creation of a catalogue of the inscriptions of Lesvos island. A concise catalogue of the inscriptions of the Archaeological Museums of Mytilene has already been published in Horos 17-21 (2004-2009) 617-634 by the present author.

In the Inventory of the Archaeological Collection of Eresos fifty six (56) inscribed stones are recorded. Following the autopsy of the stones and work in the building which houses the collection, forty eight (48) inscriptions were found and another five (5) have been transferred to Mytilene (two of them are displayed in the Old Museum, another two in the New Museum and a fifth one is kept in the storeroom of the New Museum), whereas three (3) inscriptions are presently missing.

The check list of the inscriptions of the Archaeological Collection of Eresos will be published soon.
